And the Slope gets Slippier

I started this news line at Upwords, but I think I will continue it here. The CBC is reporting that Al-Sadr's Shia militia has got a town to themselves now, establishing an alternative gov't.

I am surprised by the seemingly sudden outing of the Bush administration's failure by itself. While folks have been talking about the failure of occupation in Iraq, I haven't seen enough pressure to crack the nut of the Bushites. But, alas, here it is.

Similarly, I keep hearing that folks are unhappy with the Republicans and are going to knock them outta power this midterm election. The Left should be wary of battles won too easily.

Most believe that the dems will regain control of the House. It seems less likely, however, that the dems have The Senate races clinched. Either way, the Foley scandal played a large part in this turn-of-tide (flip-flop?) against the republicans. Their stand as moral arbiters (not less their intolerance of gays) really set them up for backlash once this sex scandal (involving under-age boys, no less!) broke.

I agree that the dems should be wary if they win both the House and the Senate; this would put but a temporary salve on the glaring need for new ideas and leadership in their party. They also need some cajones. I heard some gossip that Obama may renege on earlier statements about an '08 run and consider going for it. It remains to be seen if this is a possible solution for the headless party.
