Frankly, I think it is perfect. It represents us better than a dominating slalom performance, doesn't it?
The whole failed potential, banal pride, and wasted youth thing, no?
I think it is potent that the Olympics hosted the USA as a force for partying more than athletics. Our nation is much better (more accurately) represented by barflies than by athletes, isn't it?
I think it also shows a good measure of spite for nationalism. Bode says, "your expectations that I be a national hero, represent the glory of empire, and salve your ailing political and cultural body are silly, misplaced, and unfounded."
That's what this says to me. I welcome any chance to see through the thin veil of nationalism, corporate pride, and false unity.
